PREVIEW: Women’s Lacrosse Welcomes First-Place Georgian Court This Week

Eagles Look For First-Ever Wins Over GCU and Wilmington

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse continues in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule this week with a game at home against Georgian Court on Wednesday and on the road at Wilmington on Saturday. Post currently sits in second place in the CACC North Division.
 
Last Time Out: Dominican 20, Post 8 – Box Score | Recap
After falling behind early 6-0, senior Morgan Kanavy (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored her 11th goal of the year. The Chargers answered back with two quick goals to pull ahead 8-1 with 20:35 left in the first half.
From there the Eagles climbed back into the game scoring five of the next six goals to pull within three.
Junior Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) scored her 20th of the season with 8:23 remaining in the half but Post trailed 15-7 at the break. She added her third goal of the game in the second half. Polaski has scored three goals in six of Post's nine games this year.
 
Scouting the Lions
Georgian Court enters this week in first place in the CACC North Division at a record of 8-2 overall and 6-0 in conference play. The Lions have won eight straight games after dropping their first two of the season. They are led by Melissa Williams who leads the CACC with 29 goals and is third with 15 assists. Georgian Court allows just 7.90 goals per game.

Scouting the Wildcats
Wilmington is 4-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Last time out the Wildcats shutout Caldwell 18-0. Rebekah McCurry leads the team with 17 goals and seven assists on the year. As a team, the Wildcats are third in the conference with 93 goals and 37 assists this season.

Eagles Among The Leaders
Miranda Polaski lead the CACC with 21 assists, which is good for 21st in the NCAA. She is also third in the conference with 41 points, which is 34th in the nation. Polaski is fifth in the country at 5.0 ground balls per game. Kathy walker leads the CACC and is second in the nation at 136 saves. As a team, Post is third in the CACC with 18.4 shots per game.
 
Back In Charge
After coaching the Post women's lacrosse team for the first three seasons of its existence, Jill Kowalik did not coach the team in 2013, but returns for her second stint in 2014. Kowalik has helped build the program from the ground up and earned the first win in school history on in 2011 over Bridgeport, 13-10. Mallorie Michalak returns for her second season as assistant coach. Michalak played for Kowalik from 2010-2012 and is Post's third all-time leading scorer with 72 points.
 
Preseason Prognostications
The Eagles were selected to finish third in the North Division in the CACC Preseason Poll. Post received 25 points in the poll. It is the highest the Eagles have ever been picked. Georgian Court was picked atop the North Division with 41 points and five first-place votes. Philadelphia took the top spot in the south with 32 points and six first-place votes.
