Soarin' Beyond the Sport, Episode 23: Jasmine Valentin (Women's Lacrosse & Cheerleading)

Soarin' Beyond the Sport is a series in which members of the Post University Athletic Communications Team sit down with student-athletes across all the varsity athletic programs offered at Post University to learn more about interesting stories about the players off the field, court, ice, etc., in a short interview format. All the interview questions, filming, editing, and write-ups are done by the featured member of the Athletic Communications Team to help them gain new experiences in a variety of important aspects in the field.

In this episode, Athletic Communications Spring Intern Michael Puglio sat down with Post University Women's Lacrosse and Cheerleader Jasmine Valentin earlier in the semester to discuss her transition to the collegiate level, being a dual sport athlete, and building relationships in the campus community.

WATERBURY, Conn. -- When the time came to search for a university where Staten Island native Jasmine Valentin could continue her education as well as her athletic career, the dual-sport athlete came across Post University and fell in love with the positive atmosphere. In this interview, Post University's Jasmine Valentin talks about her experience participating in Cheerleading and Women's Lacrosse at Post. The freshman stated that she loved the community and the energy the moment she set foot on campus, claiming that the people at Post University made her feel at home, which was a major factor in her decision.

The midfielder decided to pursue a psychology major based on experiences with her high school guidance counselor, who helped her throughout her journey, and her goal is to aid others in the same way. Originally from Staten Island, New York, Valentin pointed out that making friends and staying busy with athletics has been pivotal in an easy transition, especially as a two-sport athlete. Two of her teammates have helped her transition to Post University in her freshman year. Lacrosse teammate Anna D'Angelo has helped guide the freshman throughout the challenges of the year, while cheer teammate Nicole Rogers has been a beam of sunshine.

Valentin has a great relationship with head lacrosse coach Shelby Page. She described the coach as motivational and supportive, wanting the best for her players on and off the field. As the lacrosse season came to an end, Valentin's goals were to impact the team in whatever ways she could, both physically and mentally. The midfielder appeared in nine games, starting in four.
