PREVIEW: Post Women’s Lacrosse Kicks Off Season At AIC Tuesday

Eagles Return Two All-CACC Performers

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's lacrosse team begins its 2014 campaign on Tuesday, March 4 against American International in Springfield, Mass. at 4 p.m.
 
Post is coming off its best season in school history with a record of 2-13 overall and 2-8 in conference play. The Eagles return All-CACC Second Teamers in senior Meghan Diggett (East Islip, N.Y.) and junior Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.). Diggett led Post with 44 goals and became the program's all-time leading scorer with 79 in her career. Polaski broke single-season records with 69 points, 26 assists, and 57 ground balls.
 
Scouting the Yellow Jackets
American International enters Tuesday 1-0 on the young season. The Yellow Jackets defeated Bridgeport 10-9 in their first game of the season. Brittany Flynn led the team with four. Whitney McKay added three scores and an assist in the victory. AIC was selected to finish 12th in the Northeast-10 Preseason Poll.
 
All-Time Series Against AIC
Post has never defeated the Yellow Jackets in three previous meetings. Last season, the Eagles were defeated at LaMoy Field 15-4. In Post's first game in program history it fell to AIC 18-6 at Abdow Field.

Back In Charge
After coaching the Post women's lacrosse team for the first three seasons of its existence, Jill Kowalik did not coach the team in 2013, but returns for her second stint in 2014. Kowalik has helped build the program from the ground up and earned the first win in school history on in 2011 over Bridgeport, 13-10. Mallorie Michalak returns for her second season as assistant coach. Michalak played for Kowalik from 2010-2012 and is Post's third all-time leading scorer with 72 points.
 
Preseason Prognostications
The Eagles were selected to finish third in the North Division in the CACC Preseason Poll. Post received 25 points in the poll. It is the highest the Eagles have ever been picked. Georgian Court was picked atop the North Division with 41 points and five first-place votes. Philadelphia took the top spot in the south with 32 points and six first-place votes.
