Dominic Colavito and Joseph Newman Named Co-Head Coaches for 2026 Women's Flag Football Inaugural Season

WATERBURY, Conn. -- Things are starting to take shape for the newest varsity program being offered at Post University in Women's Flag Football as Dominic Colavito and Joseph Newman have been named the program's first Co-Head Coaches in its history, as the Eagles get ready to take flight at LaMoy Field in the spring of 2026 for their inaugural season.

Both individuals bring a plethora of experience to the squad, as Colavito has been involved as the Director of the NFL Paul Panaroni Memorial Flag Football League since 1996, while Newman spent five seasons with Post's Sprint Football team first as the Offensive Line Coach before being promoted to the Head Coach position in 2017.

Spanning 28 years, Colavito has organized the Flag Football league for boys and girls ages 5-14 as both a coach and a mentor to incoming coaches. As of 2025, the organization that Colavito leads has garnered the enrollment of 360 kids involved in learning the up-and-coming sport. He also works to train referees, enforce the code of ethics of the league, and start a high school program to teach them the game of football and allow them to officiate games.

Colavito also serves on the rules committee and referees the SCC High School Flag Football League in Connecticut, which partners with Matt Lawrence, former NFL football player and co-founder of 32Sports. He has also coached tackle football since 2008. For nearly two decades, Colavito spent time coaching Semi-Pro Football in and around the state of Connecticut, winning two AAA Championships with the Connecticut Bearcats, an AA Championship with the New England Bulls, and a trio of Offensive Coordinator of the Year awards within those leagues.

At the high school and youth levels, Colavito spent three seasons as the Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the Wallingford Vikings Youth Tackle Team, leading them to the 2015 Shoreline Championship and the first undefeated eighth-grade team in the town since 1985. In the town of Wallingford, he also spent a season as the Offensive Coordinator for Lyman Hall High School in 2016, helping take the team from 1-9 to 5-5. Quoting the great John Wooden and Vince Lombardi, Colavito said, "Chase perfection and you will catch excellence," as well as "you can always do more than you think you can."

As for Newman, he is no stranger to Post University, holding several positions on the main campus since 2011, in addition to working with the Sprint Football program for five years. Starting as a Student Finance Specialist and working his way through financial aid and into the athletic space as a Student Finance Specialist for Athletics, Newman began his start in athletics at Post in 2015 as the Sprint Football Offensive Line Coach.

In his three seasons holding the role, Newman netted two All-CSFL Selections with one First Team All-CSFL Selection and an All-CSFL Honorable Mention. Promoted to Head Coach in 2017, Newman's squads accumulated 1,000 hours of community service in 2018 after netting 700 hours in his first season, while he also helped the team capture their first win in four years along the way.

Over his three seasons at the helm of the program, Newman had 18 All-CSFL Selections in the form of four All-Academic Team selections, four All-CSFL First Teamers, three All-CSFL Second Teamers, and seven All-CSFL Honorable Mentions. Speaking on his appointment as a Co-Head Coach with Colavito, Newman said, "I am honored and excited to lead the new Women's Flag Football Program at Post University with fellow co-Head Coach Dominic Colavito.  Our program is the first collegiate women's flag football team in Connecticut, and we look forward to being a trailblazer in the sport."

The duo will begin their roles immediately to field a team for the spring of 2026, with roster and schedule announcements coming at a later date.
