Box Score 2 OAKDALE, N.Y. – The Post University volleyball team split its first two matches of the season on Friday night at the Long Island Invitational in Oakdale, N.Y. The Eagles made quick work of Southern Connecticut 3-0 in their opener and fell to host Dowling 3-0 in the nightcap. Junior
Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) had 25 kills and 30 digs on the night.
Post 3, Southern Connecticut 0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-10)Early on the teams traded points and Southern Connecticut took a 10-9 lead in the first set. The Eagles pulled away with a 13-1 run to grab a commanding 22-10 lead and never looked back. Freshman
Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had two of her match-high four service aces during the run.
Post held the lead throughout the early part of the second set and was up by as many as four at 10-6. The Owls climbed back into the set with four straight points to tie the score. Neither team would lead by more than two and found the score tied 22-22 late. German and Seger each had a kill as Post grabbed the final three points.
The Eagles jumped in front 10-3 in the third set and ran away for the 25-10 victory. Freshman
Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) had 37 assists in her debut, the third most in a three-set match for Post in the past five years. Four Eagles posted double-digit digs led by senior
Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) with 12. She also added nine kills.

Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) recorded a kill in the first set to tie the score 8-8, but the Golden Lions went on a 7-2 run and began to pull away. The Eagles came within three at 17-14 after back-to-back kills by
Hailey Griffin and junior
Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) but couldn't get any closer.
Post fell behind early but battled back to take an 18-14 lead after a kill by Seger. Dowling tied the score at 18. The Eagles answered with a 5-2 run helped by two kills by German. Post was one point away from victory after a Dowling attack error, but the Golden Lions scored the final four point to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Eagles led 2-0 in the third set but were unable to get anything going as they fell 25-12. German recorded her second double-double of the night with 10 kills and 20 digs. Senior
Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) added 14 digs.
Post returns to action tomorrow in the second leg of the Long Island Invitational in Old Westbury, N.Y. The Eagles will play NYIT at 10 a.m. and Saint Anselm at noon.
