HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles carried momentum from a 3-0 victory Saturday afternoon into the new week, beginning a three-game home stretch with a set one victory over the Mustangs.
Set one saw the Eagles and Mustangs evenly matched, each team exchanging points back and forth, neither team's lead exceeding five points. Junior middle blocker Alani Duncan set the tone for the Eagles early, scoring their first kill of the game, and the very next point awarded to the Eagles due to their own playmaking came from a Duncan-Lilly Chavez block at the net.
The Eagles would begin set two on a five-nil run before letting the Mustangs score seven unanswered to build their own momentum. Monroe continued, going on small scoring runs of three and four, allowing Post to creep within two at 21-23 before ultimately taking the second set.
The Eagles began the third set almost redundantly, starting with a four-nil run. This time, they jumped out to a 17-10 lead before Monroe gained control of their own side of net, making the set score 15-17. Smart swings from Duncan and freshman Abi Thie combined with wise positioning for setter Grace Tucker's hitters finalized the set with a light at the end of the tunnel for Eagles Head Coach Tiffany Verni's squad.
The fourth and final set saw multiple service runs from both Eagles and Mustangs alike. Monroe jumped out to a lead of their own at 8-2 before Rayssa Satlher nearly evened the game at 7-8 after the set's first service run. Just six points later, junior transfer Lily Kunselman went on a service run of her own, putting the Eagles in front, 14-11. Monroe's Mileyshka Melendez regained the serve for her team, but only for the next four points as Kata Kovacs decided to join in on the fun, giving the Eagles the 19-16 advantage. Three kills from Lilly Chavez over the Eagles' final six points sealed the deal, and Post joined the win column for back-to-back games for the first time this season.
