Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University women's soccer team looks to capture its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship as it takes on top-seed Philadelphia on Saturday at 11 a.m. at LaMoy Field.
The Eagles are coming off of a 2-1 semifinal win over Georgian Court thanks to two goals from junior All-CACC First Team member,
Lexxi Carroll (Plainville, Conn.). Â Carroll scored the first of her two goals in the 49th minute, after being fed a pass from sophomore
Sylvia Yanez (West Haven, Conn.) through tight coverage in front of the net. Carroll would score again in the 78th minute after lofting a shot just past the goal line after the Lions tried to clear the ball out of the box. Georgian Court scored in the 82nd minute and outshot the Eagles, 7-0 over the last 10 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net the rest of the way.
This will be the first CACC title game appearance for the second-seeded Eagles (12-4-1).
In the first round, the Eagles defeated Goldey-Beacom, 3-0. The only other time the Eagles even reached the semifinals was in 2006.
Post was picked to finish 11th this season, but proved doubters wrong, as its scoring attack, led by senior
Renel Dennis (Queens, N.Y.) was too much for many of its opponents. The Eagles have outscored their opponents, 44-16 on the season. Dennis has 17 goals on the season and was named CACC player of the year. Coach
Matt Micros was named Coach of the Year.Â
It is the second time this season that the Eagles and Rams will meet, and if it is anything like the first game, it should be a classic. The Rams eeked out a 1-0 win on October 11th, as Shannon Reardigan scored in the 88th minute for the lone goal.Â
Carla Chmielewski was the leading goal scorer for Philadelphia (13-6-1) this season with six goals. The Rams calling card this season has been defense as they had 13 shutouts on the season. They gave up 10 goals overall, and just two in CACC play. Â The Rams defeated Dominican (2-0) and Felician (1-0) in the first two rounds.
