Women's Soccer Comeback Falls Short in Senior Day Finale with Georgian Court

WATERBURY, Conn. –  Junior midfielder Reese Kloetzer and junior forward Jordyn Calas both recorded the first multi-point matches of their careers for Post University Women's Soccer, but three unanswered goals by Georgian Court University would spoil Senior Day Saturday for the Eagles, who scored twice in the final ten minutes, seeing their comeback fall just short to the Lions in a 5-4 decision.

Georgian Court University (5-9-1, 4-5-1 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore forward Chelsea Lavezzo finished with two goals for Georgian Court, scoring their fourth goal of the first half, before netting the only goal of the second half for the Lions. In the first 45 minutes of action, a combined six goals were scored, seeing Georgian Court take an early 2-0 lead before Post responded with two goals of their own.

Freshman defender Erynn Richey found the back of the net against graduate goalkeeper Hannah Marriott, going high left on the free kick just 1:19 into the contest. Only 11 minutes later, it would be graduate forward Julia Eichenbaum's turn to score on a pair of quick passes down the right side from junior goalkeeper Delaine Wilkinson and junior defender Taylor Horvath to extend the lead to two goals.

However, Post would answer back with two of their own from Kloetzer and Calas across a six-minute stretch. Using a pair of passes from Calas and sophomore midfielder Rhee Morrison, Kloetzer was able to find open space against Wilkinson for her first goal of the contest, and then Calas would do the same with Kloetzer's help moments later, along with senior defender Zoe Mier, to knot the match at two all.

Momentum would shift back in favor of Georgian Court less than three minutes later as a penalty kick from freshman midfielder Leila Racines Romero put the Lions back in front, while Lavezzo added her first of two goals to send them into the half with a two-goal lead, 4-2. Marriott, who made her first start of the season, had six saves before junior goalkeeper Aryn Nisbet came in for the second half, making three saves on four shots.

Trailing by three goals with under ten minutes to go in the match, sophomore defender Hannah Vancise would help lead a late comeback effort as her throw-in attempt with under six minutes left caromed off the head of a Lion defender to Kloetzer for the score, recording her first of two assists in a span of 2 1/2 minutes, as her free kick would go off graduate defender Alyanna Beaudoin's head for the season-high four goal of the season for Post.

Still down by a goal with just over three minutes remaining, the Eagles would be unable to find the equalizer against Wilkinson, who had five saves, falling by a 5-4 final at LaMoy Field.
