Women's Soccer Falls Under the Lights to Caldwell University, 5-1

WATERBURY, Conn. –  Senior defender Zoe Mier scored for the second time in four matches for Post University Women's Soccer, but the Eagles would fall in their final matchup at LaMoy Field under the lights this season, 5-1, to Caldwell University on Tuesday night. Senior forwards Lexi Peto and Taina Gervais each scored twice as well as added an assist, for the Cougars, who moved to 7-1-1 in conference play this year.

THE BASICS

Post University 1, Caldwell University 5

Post University (0-12-2, 0-7-2 CACC)

Caldwell University (10-2-3, 7-1-1 CACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Gervais would score both of her goals in the first half of action, first taking a feed from freshman defender Shelby Brunotte on the right side of the box and rifling a shot into the left corner past junior goalkeeper Aryn Nisbet in only the eighth minute. Finding just enough daylight in the 26th minute, Gervais netted her second goal from Peto, beating Nisbet to her right to give Caldwell a two-goal lead heading into the break.

At halftime, the Cougars held an 8-1 edge in shots overall, holding Post to no shots on goal, with sophomore defender Hannah Vancise having the lone shot for the Eagles in the 13th minute, which was blocked. Corner kicks also favored Caldwell by a 3-0 margin, while Nisbet made two saves across the opening 45 minutes.

Scoring only 1:04 into the second half, freshman forward Tatiyana Chase fed a free ball into the box to Mier perfectly for the header to the right side of senior goalkeeper Ariana Gaminara in what would be one of only two shots on goal the Eagles would end up recording in the affair. Junior midfielder Reese Kloezter recorded the only other Post shot on goal in the 77th minute, forcing Gaminara to make her only save of the match.

Following the goal from Mier, Peto would score twice in a matter of 2 ½ minutes, getting fed a pair of passes from Gaminara in the net as well as senior forward Rosio Cardenas for her first one, followed by Cardenas again for her second. Sophomore forward Ana Pinzon would cap off the five-goal evening for Caldwell, capitalizing on a Post turnover for the unassisted goal in the 82nd minute. Nisbet finished the match with nine saves in 85 minutes before senior goalkeeper Hannah Marriott made one save in the final five minutes of the 5-1 loss for the Eagles.
