Waterbury, Conn. - After its best season in program history, the Post University Eagles women's soccer team is set to kick off the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament as it plays host to Goldey-Beacom in the first round on Monday at 2 p.m.. As host, the Eagles will have homefield advantage throughout the CACC tournament.
Post finished its stellar regular season at 10-4-1 overall and 9-2-1 in the CACC, good enough for second place in the CACC with 28 points. Philadelphia just edged them out to win the regular season title with 30 points.
The 10 regular season wins and nine wins in the CACC were the most the Eagles have ever had in school history. One more win will tie them for the most wins in a single season - postseason included - in school history with the 2006 team, which had 11 wins.
Scoring MachineThe 39 goals for the Eagles this season was spread out, but one person stood out among them all. Senior
Renel Dennis (Queens, N.Y.) scored 16 goals on the season to win the CACC scoring title. She was also the CACC leader in points with 36, as she also contributed four assists. It was the second straight year a player from Post won the scoring title. Senior
Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn.) led the CACC last year with 11 goals. She scored two this season. Also contributing on the scoring attack this season were freshmen
Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany) and
Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) who both finished with five goals on the season. Sophomore
Sylvia Yanez (West Haven, Conn.) finished with four goals on the season. Overall, 11 different players scored for Post this season.
The Eagles were also tough to score on this season, giving up just 15 goals on the year, which was the second least in the CACC behind Philadelphia (10). Juniors
Laura Morgan (Brush Prairie, Wash.) and
Brittany Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) were stellar in net. Morgan was third in the CACC with a .825 save percentage. Carroll was 10th with a .742 save percentage.

About Goldey-BeacomGoldey-Beacom comes into the game as the seventh seed in the CACC tournament with a 9-5-1 record overall and a 6-5-1 record in CACC play. They scored the most goals in the CACC this season with 43. Alexandra Smith led the way with 12 goals, Nicole Curry finished with eight goals and Megan Harvis and Danielle Semenza both had six goals.
The two teams met on September 20 this season, with the Eagles taking care of business in a 5-1 win.
Renel Dennis finished with four goals on the day.
Sam Rodriguez tallied the other goal. Â
