Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University women's soccer team accepted an invite to the Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament and will host Pace at LaMoy Field in the first round on November 12. The Eagles were given the fourth seed. Game time is yet to be announced.
In their last game, the Eagles (12-5-1, 9-2-1 CACC) lost to Philadelphia, 3-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship game. Injuries forced the team thin as junior
Brianne Scott (Williamstown, N.J.) and
Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn.) both missed the game and CACC Player of the Year and CACC scoring champion, senior
Renel Dennis (Queens, N.Y.) left early with an injury.
This will be the second time in school history that the Eagles will play in the ECAC tournament. In 2006, they defeated St. Vincent, 2-0 in the first round before losing to Bridgeport, 1-0.
Post and Pace have only squared off once - in 2010 - with Pace winning, 6-0.Keeping Up The PaceThe fifth-seeded Setters finished its season, 10-9-0 overall and 8-6-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference and qualified as the No. 7 seed in the conference tournament. They were eliminated by eventual champion, St. Rose 2-0 in the first round.
The Setters do have some fire power on offense. Forward Alyssa Zeoli finished the season as the NE-10 regular season scoring champ with 15 goals and 33 points. Both were a single-season school record. Jillian Ferro became the all-time leader in goals and points this season. She finished with 11 goals on the season and 30 points. She now has 68 points and 27 goals in her career at Pace.
The winner of the game will take on tournament host and No. 1 seed, Adelphi in the semifinals.
