PREVIEW: Post Volleyball Hits the Road this Week

Eagles Visit Saint Rose, CACC Opponent Chestnut Hill

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University Eagles women's volleyball team will play two matches this week, both on the road. The first stop for Post is Albany, N.Y. where the Eagles will face Saint Rose on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at Daniel P. Nolan Gymasium. Then on Saturday, Sept. 28, Post visits Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Chestnut Hill at 1 p.m. at Ann Rusnack Sorgenti Arena in Philadelphia, Pa.

Saint Rose has gotten off to a hot start in 2013 with a 6-1 record overall. The Golden Knights have won five-straight matches and beat Caldwell 3-0 the last time out.

Chestnut Hill opened the season with three losses in a row and fell to 1-7 on the season after losing to West Chester on Saturday, Sept. 14. However, the Griffins have won each of their last two matches to improve to 3-7 with wins over Goldey-Beacom and Queens.

Freshman Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) led the Eagles with nine kills, 14 digs and a service ace. Post kept it close in all three sets, even holding a 20-19 lead in the third, but Southern New Hampshire was too strong in the end.

Junior Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) added 27 assists and two kills for the Eagles. Freshman Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) had six kills and five block assists as well for Post.

With Saint Rose:
Post has not done very well against Saint Rose historically. In fact, the Eagles have never beaten the Golden Knights in eight attempts. In the last meeting between the two schools, Saint Rose topped Post 3-1 back in 2011 in Albany.

The Eagles have a great track record against the Griffins of Chestnut Hill. Post has a 5-1 record all-time against Chestnut Hill including a 3-0 victory last season. All six matches finished in 3-0 sweeps.

EAGLES AMONG LEADERS:
Senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) currently leads the CACC with 4.04 kills per set. Wilman had seven kills in Post's last outing against Southern New Hampshire. She is also second in the conference with a .265 hitting percentage. Nicole Brown is not far behind Wilman with a hitting percentage of .248, good for seventh in the conference. Sophomore Jennifer Lombardo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) is eighth in the CACC with 0.43 service aces per set as well.

PRESEASON PROJECTIONS:
On Friday, Aug. 23, the Post University volleyball team was chosen to finish fourth in the North Division in the CACC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Eagles, guided by seventh-year head coach Michael Brienza, notched 55 points in the poll. Caldwell was picked to win the North Division with 91 points and nine first place votes, and Wilmington was selected to take the South Division. Defending CACC Regular Season and Tournament Champions, Dominican, were picked to finish second in the North.

1,000 ASSISTS CLUB:
On Tuesday, Sept. 17, Julia Slyaktina surpassed 1,000 career assists and is currently fourth in program history with 1,066. Slyaktina recorded 27 assists in Post's last outing against Southern New Hampshire. She is currently fourth in the CACC with 8.04 assists per set and is also fifth in the conference with 0.44 service aces per set.

BLOCK PARTY:
Senior Stephanie Zarakas (Patterson, N.Y.) is currently ninth all-time in Post history with 85 career block assists. She needs just six more to reach Kelli Reynolds for eighth.
