HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles and Panthers fought for a first set win in a back-and-forth battle, both teams filled with energy to begin. Then, service runs from Adelphi's Katie Waterman and Katie Brokes snuffed the Eagles' fire, granting the Panthers an 11-1 run and the first set dub.
In the second set, the Panthers again controlled the Drubner Center court, going on a 17-3 run and attacking at a .345 rate as setters Ana Carolina Westerich and Isabella Assaley placed balls in perfect spots for their hitters. The Eagles attacked at a –0.069 clip as the Panthers blocked three of their attempts in the second set alone.
Although the Eagles faced exhaustion from fighting their way to four straight wins and 21 complete sets in less than two weeks, freshman Lilly Chavez slammed four of her six kills in the third set, attempting to keep the game and win streak alive for her team. Ultimately, exhaustion overcame the Eagles as their Northeast 10 opponent stole the third set and the game ended.
