Post Volleyball Falls to Franklin Pierce at Drubner

Wilman Notches 15 Kills for Eagles

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University volleyball team fell to Franklin Pierce Saturday afternoon 3-0 at the Drubner Center. The set scores were 20-25, 11-25, 24-26. Senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) continues to lead the way for the Eagles, recording 15 kills against the Ravens.

Sophomore Jennifer Lombardo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) had the Eagles' lone service ace along with three digs. Junior Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) contributed with 20 assists.

Post started out strong in the opening set, battling back and forth with Franklin Pierce. The Eagles held a 19-18 lead before the Ravens came storming back. Franklin Pierce finished the set on a 7-1 run which was capped off by a service ace from Kelsey Hausman.

Franklin Pierce completely dominated the second set, jumping out to a huge 14-4 lead. After Post managed to cut the lead to 18-11, Franklin Pierce closed out the set with seven straight points.

The third set was an absolute battle, and the Eagles maintained the lead for a large majority of the set. Post took a 21-16 lead, forcing a Franklin Pierce timeout, before the Ravens went on a 7-2 run to tie things up at 23 apiece. After a timeout by Post, the Eagles regained the lead with a kill by freshman Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.). The Ravens then scored three straight points to capture the match.

Post (0-4) came very close to winning its second set of the season in the final set of Saturday's match. Senior Stephanie Zarakas (Patterson, N.Y.) chipped in with three block assists and two kills for the Eagles.

Ashley Bruce led Franklin Pierce with 12 kills, and Sarah MacHugh had three service aces and three digs. Franklin Pierce remains perfect this season, improving to 4-0.

Post is back at it on Sunday, Sept. 15 with a home match against Saint Anselm at noon at the Drubner Center.
