Post held the lead at 9-7, 10-9 and 12-10 in the opening set before things got ugly for the Eagles. Felician scored 12 straight points to take a 22-12 lead. The deficit proved too much for the Eagles as the Golden Falcons took the first set with ease, 25-15.
The Eagles were firing on all cylinders to start the second set and took the first four points capped off by an ace from Alvarez. After Felician scored the next two points, Post scored five points in a row to extend the lead to 9-2. The Golden Falcons brought the deficit to just four, but the Eagles went on a 13-6 run to take a 23-12 lead. A kill by Wilman and an ace by freshman
Kerrin Kallmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) sealed the deal.
Felician took an early lead in the third set which Post could not overcome. The Golden Falcons jumped out to leads of 5-0 and 9-1 before the Eagles got going. Post cut the lead to four at 15-11, and then down 20-14, the Eagles scored the next three points to force a Felician timeout. Two kills by Griffin had Post trailing just 23-20, but the Eagles fell just short.
Again Post fell behind early 4-0 before Wilman recorded a kill and an ace to tie it up at nine apiece. Griffin and Wilman recorded back-to-back kills followed by a Griffin service ace, giving Post a 14-13 lead, forcing a Felician timeout. Wilman was responsible for three of Post's final six points as the Eagles took the set 25-21.
It was close throughout the final set, and after three Wilman kills, Post tied the match up at 7-7. Felician took the next three points, but Wilman and Griffin kept Post alive with four kills to cut the lead to 13-11. Slyaktina served up an ace to bring the Eagles within only one point, but the Golden Falcons took the final two points.
Freshman
Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) and senior
Stephanie Zarakas (Patterson, N.Y.) each recorded five kills apiece. For the moment, Post drops out of the playoff picture, and the Eagles must win their final game and need either Felician or Bloomfield to lose in order to make the CACC Tournament.
Olivia Emerson and Kayla Gallagher recorded 18 kills apiece for Felician. Since the Golden Falcons (6-17, 6-12 CACC) have a better overall record and beat the Eagles in both meetings this season, they own the tiebreaker.
Post (6-21, 6-12 CACC) travels to Philadelphia, Pa for a must-win match against Holy Family on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. to wrap up the regular season.
