PREVIEW: Volleyball to Host Three CACC Matches this Week

Felician, Dominican and USciences Visit Waterbury

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University volleyball team will play three Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) home matches this week. First up for Post this week is a matchup with Felician at the Drubner Center on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. which will be broadcasted by CPTV. Then the Eagles will host Dominican on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. followed by USciences on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.

Felician is just behind Post in the CACC North standings with a 2-5 conference record. The Golden Falcons are 2-9 on the season, 1-5 on the road and are currently on a three game losing streak.

Dominican has not lost since last playing Post on Oct. 1 with road wins over Bloomfield and Goldey-Beacom. The Chargers are 4-13 overall and half a game ahead of the Eagles in the CACC North standings at 4-3.

USciences has won two of its last three matches, including sweeps of Goldey-Beacom and Bloomfield. The Devils are 6-13 overall and 2-4 in the conference but have failed to gain a road win yet this season.

Freshman Kerrin Kallmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) led Post with 13 kills, and senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) added 12 kills, three block assists and a season-high 22 digs. The Eagles took the first two sets but could not put the Lions away.

Sophomore Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) also added a season-high 21 digs for the Eagles. Junior Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) had 34 assists, nine digs, two service aces and two block assists.

With Felician:
Post has a nearly perfect résumé against Felician. The Eagles are 17-1 all-time against the Golden Falcons and have won the last four meetings. Felician's lone win over Post came on the road in 2010.

EAGLES AMONG LEADERS:
Emily Wilman is currently fifth in the CACC with 3.28 kills per set. Wilman had 12 kills in Post's last outing at Georgian Court. Freshman Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) is fifth in the conference with a .250 hitting percentage. Brown recorded eight kills in Post's recent match against Georgian Court. Julia Slyaktina is averaging 0.48 service aces per set, good for fourth in the CACC. She had two service aces the last time out.

PRESEASON PROJECTIONS:
On Friday, Aug. 23, the Post University volleyball team was chosen to finish fourth in the North Division in the CACC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Eagles, guided by seventh-year head coach Michael Brienza, notched 55 points in the poll. Caldwell was picked to win the North Division with 91 points and nine first place votes, and Wilmington was selected to take the South Division. Defending CACC Regular Season and Tournament Champions, Dominican, were picked to finish second in the North.

1,000 ASSISTS CLUB:
On Tuesday, Sept. 17, Julia Slyaktina surpassed 1,000 career assists and is currently fourth in program history with 1,215. Slyaktina recorded a game-high 34 assists in Post's last outing against Georgian Court. She is currently fifth in the CACC with 7.61 assists per set.

BLOCK PARTY:
Senior Stephanie Zarakas (Patterson, N.Y.) is currently eighth all-time in Post history with 92 career block assists. She needs just five more to reach Taylor Doyle for seventh.
