Post Volleyball Picks up Huge Road Win at Dominican

Wilman Leads the Way with 13 Kills, 17 digs

Box Score

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Post University women's volleyball team topped Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Dominican 3-1 on the road Tuesday night at the Hennessy Center. The set scores were 25-22, 31-29, 21-25, 25-17. Senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) posted a double-double with 13 kills and a game-high 17 digs for the Eagles.

Freshmen Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) and Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) tallied 11 kills each. Junior Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) recorded a season-high 35 assists as well as eight digs and three kills for Post.

Despite trailing 2-0 to Dominican to open the first set, Post used an impressive 7-1 run to grab the early lead. The Chargers took the next five points to regain the lead at 8-7, but the Eagles continued to battle. The two teams fought brilliantly, but with the score tied at 20, Post came through big. A service ace by Wilman capped off a 25-22 opening-set win.

Post took a 4-0 lead to open the second set, but Dominican fought right back. The two squads swapped points back and forth until the Chargers grabbed a 21-20 lead, forcing a Post timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Post put together four straight points to come within just one point of a set victory. Dominican just would not give up, however, and brilliantly fought back to take a 25-24 lead. Back-to-back kills by freshman Kerrin Kallmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) put Post back on top, and the Eagles would go on to win 31-29 in a thrilling second set.

In the third set, Post notched an early 5-3 lead but would not hold it for very long. Dominican went on a 10-4 run to take a 13-9 lead. The Eagles drew within one at 15-14, but the Chargers finished strong, taking the set 25-21 to make things interesting.

The Eagles responded well after the set loss with a dynamic fourth set. After falling behind 4-2, Post used an 8-2 run to gain a 10-6 lead. Dominican took the next three points before Post caught fire. The Eagles went on an astonishing 10-1 run to diminish any chance of a Charger comeback. Wilman made the final kill to give Post its second victory of the season.

Griffin filled up the box score, adding 11 digs, five assists, two block assists and two service aces for the Eagles. Sophomore Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) had two service aces of her own along with nine digs.

Dominican fell to 2-13 on the season with the loss but still has a 2-3 record in the CACC. McKenzie John had 15 kills and Tori Dexter had 10 kills for the Chargers.

The Eagles (2-9, 2-2 CACC) visit New Haven on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
