Volleyball Falls At Molloy In Straight Sets

Eagles Sit At 0-3 To Start The Season

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Eagles volleyball team fell to Molloy 3-0 on Tuesday night. The final scores were 12-25, 21-25, 19-25. Post sits at 0-3 on the season heading into its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener on Thursday night.
 
Senior captain Kelly Hayes (South Orange, N.J.) had a team-high eight kills in the match. Sophomore Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) recorded 16 assists. Graduate student Vanessa Ramos (Milford, Conn.) had 12 digs and two service aces.
 
Molloy jumped out to a 9-2 advantage in the first set. A service error by the Lions and an ace by junior Monica Aristizabal (Tustin, Calif.) pulled the score to 9-4, but the Eagles could never get closer.
 
After falling behind 9-5 in the second set, service aces by Hayes and Ramos helped Post reel off a 7-2 run and take a 12-11 advantage. The Lions responded with a 6-2 run of their own to put the Eagles away.
 
The teams traded points to begin the third set. A kill by Hayes gave put Post ahead 4-3, before Molloy scored five straight, taking an 8-4 lead. The Eagles cut the deficit to one at 8-7, helped by two kills by junior Stephanie Zarakas (Patterson, N.Y.).
 
Freshman Mariah Morris (Vilseck, Germany) recorded four kills in her Eagles debut. Senior Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added two block assists. Molloy's Sam Berna led all players with 10 kills.
 
Post returns home to open CACC play against Concordia on Thursday, Sept. 6. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
