WATERBURY, Conn. – Behind the strength of four first half goals and a hat trick from junior
Renel Dennis (Queens, N.Y.), the Post University women's soccer team captured its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory of the season with a 6-1 triumph over Concordia at LaMoy Field on Tuesday afternoon.
In addition to Dennis' six-point match, Post (2-7, 1-5 CACC) got two goals and two assists from senior
Sabrina Sinopoli (Watertown, Conn.), while sophomore
Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn.) contributed one goal and one assist. Defensively,
Grace McConnell (Leeds, England) made one save in 54:04 of action to earn the win.
The Eagles took a lead on Dunster's fifth marker of the season off a feed from senior
Sara Cramer (Lake Hiawatha, N.J.). The tally came in the 19
th minute to give Post a 1-0 lead. Sinopoli and Dennis scored two minutes apart to give the Eagles a 3-0 advantage by the 27
th minute. Sinopoli touched in a goal after a thrown-in from junior
Danielle Charette (Naugatuck, Conn.), and Dennis finished a Sinopoli feed that went through the defense.
Dennis stretched the advantage to 4-0 in the 39
th minute when she stole the ball from a Concordia (0-7, 0-5 CACC) defender and scored from 14 yards out. The Eagles took a 4-0 lead into the intermission.
Dennis completed her hat trick with her ninth goal of the season after she received a ball from Sinopoli that was played over the defense. Dennis dribbled in from 45 yards out and netted her third goal of the match.
In the 53
rd minute, Sinopoli converted a corner kick off the foot of Dunster for her second goal of the match, a tally that gave Post a 6-0 lead. The last time the Eagles scored six goals in a match was on Nov. 1, 2008, in a 6-0 shutout of Goldey-Beacom.
For the match, Post held a 23-9 advantage in shots and a 14-3 edge in shots on goal. Post took five corner kicks and scored on one, as opposed to Concordia's one corner kick.
Post will travel to Bloomfield for a CACC match on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The conference contest is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
