Baccielo’s Hat Trick Propels Post Over Wilmington 4-0

Men’s Soccer Grows Home Unbeaten Streak To 13 Games; Baccielo Nets Second Hat Trick Of Season

WATERBURY, Conn.
– Powered by the second three-goal game of the season by junior Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn.) the Post University men's soccer team remained unbeaten in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play this season. The Eagles earned a 4-0 victory over Wilmington at LaMoy Field on Saturday afternoon. Post is 2-0-2 in CACC play.
 
Senior goalkeeper Errol Reid (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) made six saves to earn his third shutout of the season. Classmate Eltany Morais (Cape Verde Islands) finished the match with a goal and an assist, while junior Kevin Ipina (Danbury, Conn.) added two helpers. Baccielo has scored 10 goals in seven matches this season. As a team, the Eagles outscored the opposition 7-1 this week at LaMoy Field.
 
Morais gave Post (4-1-2, 2-0-2 CACC) a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute of the match. He chipped a shot over the head of Wilmington (2-6, 1-4 CACC) goalkeeper Spyros Stergiotis. Baccielo gave the Eagles a 2-0 advantage after he converted a penalty kick at the 35:53 mark.
 
Post took a 3-nil lead into the intermission after the squad connected a number of passes and Baccielo finished the play. In the 44th minute, Ipina played a ball into the box that was chipped on by Morais to Baccielo who scored his second goal of the stanza.
 
In the second half, Baccielo completed the hat trick. Ipina took the initial shot that was saved by Stergiotis and Baccielo buried the rebound to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead.
 
For the match, Post held a 12-8 advantage in shots and an 8-6 margin in shots on goal. The Eagles totaled three corner kicks to the Wildcats' one.
 
Post will return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 26, when it travels to Concordia for a CACC match. The opening touch is slated for 3 p.m.
