Kelly Hayes (South Orange, N.J.) recorded 11 digs on Saturday afternoon to give her 1,000 for her career. It wasn't enough as the Eagles volleyball team fell at Franklin Pierce 3-0. The final scores were 21-25, 23-25, 15-25.
Hayes becomes the seventh student-athlete in Post history to reach the 1,000-dig milestone. She now sits at 1,007 digs and is 12 behind Courtney McGinnis (2001-04) for sixth on the all-time list.
Senior
Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Eagles with 11 kills. Sophomore
Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) led all players with 27 assists. Hayes and junior
Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) each had a service ace.
The Eagles went out to an early 9-6 lead in the first set. Chance account for five of the Eagles first nine points, all on kills. Franklin Pierce came back and tied the score 14-14 before Post took the lead again at 17-15. The Ravens ended the set on a 10-4 run.
Post found itself down 19-13 late in the second set. A kill by graduate student
Kelli Reynolds (Stamford, Conn.) capped a 9-4 run to pull the Eagles within one at 23-22. Wilman had four kills and an ace in the set.
Hayes recorded two kills and an ace early in the final set to give Post a 5-1 advantage. The Ravens staged a 6-0 run to pull ahead 7-5. The Eagles tied the set 10-10 as Chance and Slyaktina launched back-to-back kills. Franklin Pierce used an 8-1 run from there to put the match away.
The Eagles end their six-match road trip at Felician on Wednesday, Sept. 19. First service is scheduled for 7 p.m.
