DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Post University volleyball team won its second match of the season on Tuesday night at Mercy 3-1. The final scores were 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20. The Eagles improve to 2-5 on the season and 1-2 on the current six-match road trip.
Senior
Kelly Hayes (South Orange, N.J.) recorded 10 kills, three service aces, and nine digs. She needs 10 more digs for 1,000 for her career. Sophomore
Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) picked up 24 assists. Junior
Monica Aristizabal (Tustin, Calif.) led the Eagles with 17 digs. Post recorded a season-high 10 service aces on the night, led by Slyaktina with four.
After falling behind 4-2 early, Post responded with at 9-3 run to take control of the first set at 11-7. Slyaktina and senior
Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) both had two kills during the stretch. The Eagles never trailed again, holding their largest lead at 21-15.
Mercy took a 2-0 lead to start the second set, but the Eagles reeled of seven straight points to take a 7-2 advantage. The Mavericks tied the set 16-16. Slyaktina recorded her third service ace of the stanza to cap off the 25-21 Post victory.
Hayes had two consecutive kills during a 6-1 Eagles run midway through the third set to put Post ahead 12-11. The teams traded points and were tied 18-18 late. Mercy ended the set on a 7-2 run.
With the Eagles serving for match point ahead 24-14, Mercy staged a 6-0 run to close the gap to 24-20. After a Post timeout a kill by Chance sealed the victory. The Eagles had runs of 8-2 and 7-1 in the final set.
The Eagles hit the court again on Friday night at UMass-Lowell. The match is scheduled to begin 7 p.m.
