Post Falls To Merrimack 3-0 In Season-Opener

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Post University men's soccer team allowed three goals in the first half of a 3-0 loss at Merrimack on Thursday night to open the 2012 season. Despite the loss, the Eagles held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks in the match.
 
The Warriors scored two goals 13 seconds apart in the 25th minute of the match. Merrimack's Derek Simpson opened the scoring with a header off a feed from Franklin Pena. Michael Rincon scored the second marker for Merrimack (1-0) at the 24:52 mark.
 
Francis Mulkern added an insurance goal in the 41st minute for the Warriors to make the score 3-0.
 
Senior Korab Muaremi (Middlebury, Conn.) and junior Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn.) each tallied shots on goal in the second half. In the loss, senior goalkeeper Errol Reid (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) made five saves, including four in the first half.
 
Post (0-1) will round out its competition at the Merrimack Invitational when it takes on American International on Saturday, Sept. 1. The opening touch is slated for 3 p.m.
