For the third straight season, the Post University men's soccer team will begin the regular season at the Merrimack Invitational. The 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Preseason favorites came back from the event 1-0-1 last season, which kick-started a nine-game unbeaten streak to open the 2011 slate.
Notes:
Preseason Prognostications:
The Post men's soccer team was pegged as the favorite to win the CACC in the preseason poll, which was announced by conference officials on Aug. 22. The defending regular season champions, Post was awarded four first-place votes and 127 points by the league's 12 head coaches.
Post In Season-Openers:
Since the program transitioned to Division II in 2002, the Eagles are 2-7-1 in season-openers. Last season, Post played Merrimack to a 2-2 draw to open the season, while it posted a 2-1 overtime win at New Haven in 2008 and a 3-2 victory over Saint Michael's in 2005. The triumph over Saint Michael's came in head coach
Ted Haley's Post debut.
Reigning Regular Season Champs:
Powered by an 8-2-1 conference record during the 2011 campaign, the Post men's soccer team claimed its first CACC Regular Season Title in program history. The Eagles clinched the title with a 1-0 overtime victory over Holy Family on Oct. 22, after a goal by
Francis Eno (Powder Springs, Ga.) with 12 seconds remaining in the contest. Post was the top seed in the conference tournament, which it lost in the championship match.
Humble Tournament Hosts:
Post University will serve as the host of the 2012 CACC men's and women's soccer championship from Nov. 1-3. The conference tournament semifinals and championship games will be contested at LaMoy Field. Following the quarterfinals at campus sites, the four remaining teams in both the men's and women's bracket will advance to the neutral site in Waterbury.
All-Time Series…:
With Merrimack:
Since it became a Division II program in 2002, Post is still in search of its first win against Merrimack. The Eagles are 0-7-3 all-time against the Warriors, and 0-5-2 in matches played in North Andover.
