Soarin' Beyond the Sport is a series in which members of the Post University Athletic Communications Team sit down with student-athletes across all the varsity athletic programs offered at Post University to learn more about interesting stories about the players off the field, court, ice, etc., in a short interview format. All the interview questions, filming, editing, and write-ups are done by the featured member of the Athletic Communications Team to help them gain new experiences in a variety of important aspects in the field.
In this episode, Athletic Communications Assistant, Jarrett Michaels sat down with Post University Men's Soccer graduate midfielder Pablo Tenorio, to discuss coming from Spain to the United States, overcoming several injuries during his career, and working as a student-athlete.
WATERBURY, Conn. - Graduate Midfielder Pablo Tenorio joined the Post University Men's Soccer team all the way back in 2019. Being from Madrid, Spain, his recruitment process is a little bit different than someone who is from the United States. Pablo had some help from an agency in Madrid that helped him get in contact with coaches here in the United States. He had to take some highlights from his games and put them in a video together to be shown off to coaches, since coaches would not have easy access to watch him in person. He also had to take the SAT and apply for his visa to be able to come to the United States for college. After only one week of completing everything, he got the offer from Post and committed soon after.
The transition to living in the United States was not always easy for Tenorio. When he first came over to Post, he ended up getting hurt and had to sit out the whole year. That was a difficult thing for Tenorio to go through as he was so new to the school and area, but the support from his teammates made the situation easier to deal with. The next season, things didn't get any easier as the 2020 season ended up getting canceled due to COVID-19. Pablo ended up going back home for the year to be with his friends and family. Once everyone was able to come back to campus in 2021, the transition was much smoother for Pablo. He already knew some of his teammates and coaches. After the year off due to COVID-19, he was now healthy and able to make his collegiate debut for the Eagles.
During his time at Post, Tenorio worked in the social experience department and as an RA, along with being a student-athlete. Doing so, he had learned some very important skills, one being time management. When he first started doing all of these things, it was not the easiest thing to balance his time. Working in the social experience department, he goes in early in the morning, then stays there till he has lift and or practice, depending on the day. Then on Tuesdays and Thursdays, he has class, which he also has to work around. Tenorio said the best piece of advice that he has received is "do not try to do everything at once and take it step by step," so he says he likes to do the little things as soon as he can, which helps him with his time management.
Notable accomplishments for Pablo Tenorio:
- Four-Time Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Champion (19, 21, 22, 23)
- 11 goals, 13 assists, 35 total points
