NEWARK, Del. – The fourth-seeded Post University volleyball team lost at top-seeded Wilmington 3-0 on Tuesday night in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Quarterfinals. The set scores were 14-25, 18-25, and 23-25.
Junior
Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) scored seven kills, 18 digs, and one service ace in defeat. Senior
Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded six kills and three block assists. Senior
Kelly Hayes (South Orange, N.J.) and graduate student
Kelli Reynolds (Stamford, Conn.) each added five kills. Graduate student
Vanessa Ramos (Milford, Conn.) led Post with 20 digs.
The Eagles stayed with the Wildcats at the beginning of the first set as the score was tied 6-6. Wilmington opened a 15-9 advantage with a 9-3 run midway through the stanza. Reynolds scored a kill to cut the deficit to three at 15-12, but Post couldn't get closer. The Wildcats ended the set on a 10-2 run.
Wilmington carried the momentum into the second set as it never trailed on its way to victory. A kill by Chance after a Wildcats error closed the gap to three at 11-8. Wilmington opened a 10 point advantage at 23-13. Post responded with a 5-1 run to pull the score to 24-18 late. Wilman had an ace during the stretch.
Back-to-back kills by junior
Stephanie Zarakas (Patterson, N.Y.) and Wilman gave the Eagles their largest lead of the night at 6-3 in the final set. The Wildcats staged a 10-3 run from there to take a 13-9 advantage. Post tied the score 23-23 late after a 6-2 run. Wilman had two kills during the comeback. The Wildcats scored the final two points to advance to the semifinals.
The Eagles finish the season with a record of 10-18 overall and 9-10 in CACC play. Wilmington will take on third-seeded Georgian Court in the semifinals on Friday.
