Box Score NEWARK, Del. – The Post University volleyball team fell to Wilmington 3-1 in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon. The set scores were 16-25, 19-25, 25-19, and 11-25. The Eagles locked up the fourth seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division at 10-17 overall and 9-10 in conference play.
Senior
Kelly Hayes (South Orange, N.J.) led Post with 16 kills to go along with 18 digs. Junior
Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) added eight kills and 12 digs. Sophomore
Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) put up 32 assists and 13 digs. Graduate student
Vanessa Ramos (Milford, Conn.) added 18 digs.
Post took an early 6-4 lead in the first set after two errors by Wilmington. The Wildcats answered with an 11-2 run to pull ahead 15-8. Hayes and senior
Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y) scored back-to-back kills to bring the Eagles within five at 15-10, but they couldn't get any closer.
Hayes recorded a kill to cap off a 5-2 run by Post and give the Eagles their largest lead of the second set at 8-5. A long 12-3 run by Wilmington put it ahead 17-11 midway through the stanza. Two kills by junior
Stephanie Zarakas (Patterson, N.Y.) and a Wildcats error pulled the Eagles within five late at 24-19.
After falling behind 6-2 to begin the third set, Post staged an 8-2 run to take a 10-8 advantage. Hayes and Wilman scored two kills each during the stretch. Slyaktina capped of 10-4 run by the Eagles midway through the stanza with a kill to give Post a 23-17 lead. Chance ended the set with a kill as the Eagles pulled the match to 2-1.
Wilmington scored 10 consecutive points after falling behind 1-0 to begin the final set. Post pulled as close as nine twice at 17-18 and 19-10. Hayes led the Eagles with four kills set.
Post will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 6 in the quarterfinals of the CACC Tournament. The Eagles, as the fourth seed in the North, will face the CACC South top seed, Wilmington. Start time has yet to be determined.
