Moura’s Header Earns #25 Post Spot In CACC Tournament Finals

Eagles Earn 1-0 Win Over Wilmington In Semifinals; Reach Championship Game For Second Straight Season

WATERBURY, Conn. – Freshman Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.), the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Year, of the #25 Post University men's soccer team netted the lone goal to lift the Eagles past fifth-seeded Wilmington in the conference tournament semifinals on Friday at LaMoy Field. With the win, the Eagles will appear in their second straight CACC Tournament Final and fourth since 2002.

 

The tally came in the 75th minute off a corner kick by senior Matt Luis (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Moura won the ball in the air. His sixth goal of the season beat Wilmington (12-8) goalkeeper Spyros Stergiotis.

  

Senior Errol Reid (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) made six saves in goal for Post (13-3-4). Reid moved to 7-2-3 on the season.

 

For the match, Post outshot Wilmington 18-16 and held a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. The Eagles took four corner kicks and Wilmington totaled three.

 

Top-seeded Post will return to the pitch on Sunday, Nov. 4, when it takes on second-seeded Dominican for the CACC Tournament championship. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. at LaMoy Field. The Chargers advanced by virtue of a 4-1 victory over Nyack.
