WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University volleyball team fell to Georgian Court 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match on Saturday afternoon. The scores were 22-25, 20-25, 25-22, and 20-25. The Eagles have dropped three consecutive matches and sit at 7-13 overall and 6-6 in conference play.
Graduate student
Kelli Reynolds (Stamford, Conn.) led Post with 14 kills to go along with two block assists. Sophomore
Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) put up 34 assists and three service aces. Graduate student
Vanessa Ramos (Milford, Conn.) and senior
Kelly Hayes (South Orange, N.J.) had 14 and 11 digs, respectively.
After losing the first two sets, the Eagles took the third. Georgian Court held a 19-14 advantage late in the stanza. Post battled back with an 11-3 run to close out the set. Reynolds and Hayes each had two kills during the stretch.
The Lions pulled ahead 12-9 in the opening set. Two kills by senior
Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) helped the Eagles pull the score even at 18-18. Georgian Court finished the stanza on a 7-4 run. Reynolds scored four kills in the set.
Slyaktina aced three consecutive serves to give Post a 12-9 advantage in the second set. The Lions responded with an 8-3 run to pull ahead 17-15 and force a timeout by the Eagles. An ace by Wilman tied the set 18-18, but a 7-2 run by Georgian Court ended the set.
The teams traded points to start the final set and a kill by Hayes tied the score 10-10. Errors hurt the Eagles as Georgian Court pulled away 17-13 and Post never came within three the rest of the set. Reynolds and Hayes had three kills each in the stanza.
Post will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Nyack. The Warriors sit in third, just ahead of the Eagles, in the CACC North Division. First service is scheduled for 7 p.m.
