WATERBURY, Conn (September 24, 2011) In a closely contested volleyball game between Post University and Philadelphia, the Eagles emerged victorious 3-2 in the Drubner Center Saturday afternoon. The Eagles now improve to 3-11 this season and 2-3 in conference.
With a new look to the starting lineup, the Eagles jumped to a 12-5 lead in the opening set. Continuing to build their lead, Post took the set with a score of 25-17 after Philadelphia's Terra Ecker had an attack error.
In the second set, Post was back on their heels as the Rams quickly built a 14-6 lead, but the Eagles rallied back getting as close as 6 at 22-16. That would be as close as they could get falling 25-16 in the second.
In the third set it was Post jumping out to the early advantage going up 6-1. Most of the success came from key blocks by Liz Knight,
Kelli Reynolds, and
Belinda Snider which helped carry momentum through the set.
The Rams took a time out and came back to tie at 24. Post would hang on for the win after Reynolds and Chance had two back to back kills.
In the fourth set the two teams battled toe to toe with at the most two points separation in score.
Emily Wilman put the Eagles up 26-25 with a kill, but the Rams responded. After a tie at 27, two consecutive kills from Philadelphia sent the match into a fifth set as the Eagles fell 29-27.
The fifth set featured even more intensity as the set was tied several times throughout. With the score 12 apiece, the Rams committed two ball handling errors putting Post up 14-12.
Belinda Snider would register the last kill of the game for a 15-12 win. Snider had 17 kills on the day.
Taylor Doyle tossed up 47 assists and
Courtney Braun brought up 33 digs.
The Eagles return to competition on Tuesday at the Drubner Center to take on Bloomfield. Game time is set for 7pm.
