PHILADELPHIA, PA (November 1, 2011) Post University's women's soccer team nearly put the No. 1 seeded Philadelphia Rams away in the opening round of the CACC tournament. The Rams scored the game winner 92:12 minutes in on a corner kick.
“You are obviously disappointed to lose a game like that, but it had many positives,” said
Matt Micros, Eagles Head Coach. “It was a hell of a game I couldn't be prouder of them. At the beginning of the season we set two goals; to improve last year's record and make tournament. Taking the top seed to overtime was a topper.”
Post settled back into a defensive stance in the first half as they were forced to play into the wind for the first 45 minutes. Midfielder
Danielle Charette, who has a significant factor in the Eagles success all season, was sidelined by an injury 20 minutes into the contest.
In the second half, Post had the Rams nervous with several dangerous chances in the words of Micros.
Philadelphia pressed forward allowing the Eagles to catch them off guard.
Their best chance came with ten minutes to play when
Elin Nyman slipped it ahead to
Renel Dennis who sent a cross for
Sabrina Sinopoli. Sinopoli headed it into the cross bar and the rebound was played wide of the goal.
Grace McConnell withstood 36 shots in goal making 15 saves on the day. It is the third highest single game save count in CACC tournament history.
The game winner was scored off a corner kick by Chelsea Riedell.
Post will end their season with a 6-8-2 record.
