WATERBURY, Conn (October 31, 2011) Post University's women's soccer team under the direction of
Matt Micros has earned its first CACC playoff bid since the 2008 season. The Eagles will take on No. 1 seeded Philadelphia in the opening round on Tuesday.
The Eagles have had a tremendous season and will enter the tournament 6-7-2. At one point the team was ranked as high as third in the conference standings, but will enter the tournament as the eight seed.
Freshman forward
Elin Nyman leads the nation in scoring with 1.3 goals per game as well points per game with 2.8. Nyman has 14 goals this season, which puts her 15th nationally.
Renel Dennis is ranked 46th for goals per game and 44th in points per game. Dennis has scored nine times adding three assists.
Goalkeeper
Grace McConnell is ranked 20th in the country for saves and leads the conference with 112 on the year.
The Eagles opening round opponent will be top seeded Philadelphia who enters the tournament (14-2-2) and are undefeated in conference play with 12 wins. The Rams beat Post 1-0 in Waterbury on October 15 in their only meeting this season. The Rams were ranked No. 6 in the East region at the time and still hold that ranking heading into Tuesday. McConnell made nine saves that day.
The Rams strength is in their defense backed by their goalkeepers who have only allowed five goals all season. Both Kelli Kowalewski and Rebecca Della Peruta have split time as the team's net minder with Kowalewski getting more minutes. She has 64 saves with a save percentage of .901. Both goalkeepers rank 1-2 atop the CACC standings, are fifth nationally in save percentage and a have seventh ranking in goals against average.
Offensively three players have scored six goals this year including Trisha Sileo, Melissa Copeland, and Kristen Ferguson with each having six, five, and three assists respectively.
The opening round of the tournament is set for 2pm in Philadelphia.
