Everything was in place for the Post University women's volleyball team to pick up a huge road win Monday night at Dominican College.
The Eagles just came up short.
Dominican (13-14, 10-4 CACC) dominated the fifth and final set, 15-6, to escape with a 3-2 victory in Orangeburg, N.Y.
Kelli Reynolds led the Eagles with 13 kills, while
Elizabeth Knight added 11 kills and 2 aces for Post University. Setter
Taylor Doyle racked up 42 assists.
Dominican was led by Randi Garrett and Michelle Fiorvanti, who each recorded 10 kills in the win. Setter Whitney Ranger had 32 assists for the Chargers.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead after junior
Courtney Braun caught fire in the first set, connecting on a run of five straight service points, including two aces. Post Unviersity won the set, 25-18.
But Dominican answered by winning the next two sets, 25-20 and 25-13.
The Eagles never trailed in set four, closed with a 7-3 run, and forced a fifth and final set with a 25-21 win.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, the fifth set was not as dramatic.
The Chargers controlled the pace, winning 8 of the final 9 points and escaping with a 3-2 victory.
The Eagles conclude their three-game road trip with a game against Concordia on Wednesday before returning to the Drubner Center Saturday afternoon to take on Chestnut Hill.
