Volleyball Season Ends at Dominican

ORANGEBURG, NY (November 10, 2009) The second-seeded Dominican College Lady Chargers volleyball team defeated the third seeded Eagles of Post University 3-1, (25-13, 25-22, 25-27, 25-22) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Quarter-Final match Tuesday evening.
The Lady Chargers jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first set as setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) had four service points (2 aces) during the run. DC extended the lead to 18-10 and never looked back en route to the 25-13 set win.
Tied at 20 a-piece in set 2, Dominican put together a 4-0 run to go up 24-20. A 2-0 spurt by the Eagles cut the deficit to 24-22
The third set was a close knit battle as neither team led by more than three points. Tied at 25-25. the Eagles took advantage of two DC errors for a 27-25 set win and cut the match lead to 2-1.
Dominican rebounded in the fourth set after the Eagles started with a 1-0 lead to go on an 10-4 run to gain a 10-5 lead. With DC leading, 15-10 the Eagles went on a 5-2 run to cut the lead to 17-15 and once again fought back to cut the lead to two at 24-22, but freshman Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) closed out the set and the match with a kill for the 25-22 victory.
Sophomore Elizabeth Knight (Queens Village, NY) led the Eagles with 12 kills, while Teresea Hodges (San Diego, CA) added 11 kills. Setter Taylor Doyle (Mystic, CT) had a team leading 28 assists.
