Senior Spotlight: Skylar Devorin

Skylar Devorin, Senior Spotlight

Softball | 4/13/2020 1:38:00 PM

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be highlighting some of our seniors from our Spring sports season who had their final year cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For some, the abbreviated 2020 season marked an end to their careers as a Post Eagle. For others, they wanted a shot at redemption and a return to the nest in 2021 where they will be eligible to play their senior season.

We asked them how they felt about their season being cut short, their favorite memories as an Eagle as well as their plans after they earn their degree.

Today we have Skylar Devorin of the Post University softball team. Devorin has played all four years ago, bursting on the scene her freshman year, batting .303 with 33 runs, 16 RBI, ten doubles and three home runs. In her career, she has scored 64 runs, driven in 32 runs. She has also hit 21 doubles and four home runs. Before the 2020 season ended, Devorin was off to a hot start, batting at a .412 clip. In a 13-5 win over American International College, Devorin went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.

Memories at Post

I have grown so much in the past four years because of Post and what I will miss the most is the people I have met.  I have made some incredible relationships with my teammates, coworkers, coaches, and so many others that have all impacted me in different ways.  Because of the people I have met at Post I am more independent, creative, open \-minded, and more curious about the world.  Post taught me a lot in four years, but it also taught me that I still have so much to learn, so thank you.

Finding out about the cancellation of the season

I can still remember the second the news hit that the season was canceled.  I was heartbroken.  For my team, my fellow seniors, and every other girl that won't touch the diamond this year.  This year was a special one, and the team had so much potential to win it all this year.  To have one last chance to win it all taken away from us did not seem fair.  In just a couple of months every girl on the team became my family and while I knew saying goodbye would be hard, I thought I still had a couple of weeks' worth of memories ahead of us.  It is crazy to say that I think this adversity has brought everyone even closer together, and I know that the team will absolutely take nothing for granted anymore.  And, when the time comes to step back on the field together, we have a lot of unfinished business to handle!! #Htcaytogo

Plans after this year

After I graduate from Post I will be returning for one more year to get my Master's degree, and joining my teammates for one more season on the field.
