HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Post University 3, Assumption University 11 (6 Innings)
Seven consecutive runs to start the game would pace the Greyhounds to a game one victory in six innings, 11-3, as they accumulated 11 stolen bases in the eight-run mercy rule. Sophomore right-hander
Meghan McGurk was charged with her fourth loss of the season, lasting three innings in which she allowed nine runs (five earned) on five hits with three walks, two strikeouts, and a wild pitch.
Senior infielder Maddy Bland kicked off the game with a two-run inside-the-park home run for Assumption, as part of a four-run first inning aided by a passed ball issued to graduate catcher
Sydney Jones and a sacrifice fly for sophomore infielder Janelli Pratts. After taking a 7-0 lead after two innings, sophomore infielder
Angelica Tompkins drove in sophomore outfielder
Isabella Oliver with her RBI groundout off of senior right-hander Kaelin Waldron, which was the only run she allowed in her start.
Waldron would only last 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits, with five strikeouts and two walks, before senior right-hander Kya Birtz came in to earn her third win of the season. Birtz allowed two unearned runs across her 3 1/3 innings of work on four hits with four strikeouts, two walks, and a wild pitch. Sophomore infielder
Alexandra Bisceglia drove in two runs in the fourth with her RBI single, after an error extended the inning to load the bases.
However, junior catcher Izzy Viglione would walk off the Greyhounds to the mercy rule win with her RBI triple in the sixth, giving Assumption an eight-run lead, 11-3, triggering the mercy rule that goes into effect after five innings.
Game 2: Post University 0, Assumption University 8 (5 Innings)
Junior right-hander Paige Cote was the star of the show in game two for the Greyhounds pitching staff, earning her third win of the season behind a complete-game, five-inning performance in which she allowed no runs on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Meanwhile, her offense would more than assist her, tallying 12 more stolen bases, including three from Bland, who went 3-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs, and three runs scored.
Senior infielder Emma Bloom also tallied three stolen bases, going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored in the 8-0 shutout win for Assumption. As for the Eagles, their offense was once again led by Tompkins and Bisceglia, who both recorded singles to extend their hitting streaks to six and five games, respectively.
