Program Record Six Players Named to CACC All-Conference Team for Men's Lacrosse

WATERBURY, Conn. -- A year after the record-breaking five honorees on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's All-Conference Team, Post University Men's Lacrosse has made history again ahead of its CACC Semifinals matchup against Wilmington University at 3:30 PM. Announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon, six players, three on the First Team and three on the Second Team, were named to the CACC All-Conference Teams.

First Team recipients included junior attackers Leighton Cooke and Ryan Denike alongside senior long-stick midfielder James Sproul, while the Second Team featured senior attacker Robbie McGrayne, freshman midfielder Will Brien, and freshman defender John Karas. For Karas, Brien, Cooke, and Denike, it was all their first times being featured on the All-Conference Teams, while being McGrayne's second consecutive year on the Second Team and Sproul's second year on the All-Conference squad, but first on the First Team.

Primarily a defender, Sproul has had a solid season on the defensive end for Post in their 15 games so far, contributing 99 ground balls and 48 caused turnovers, which leads the team in both categories. The caused turnover mark ranks first in the conference, while the ground balls are second in the conference behind only Jayden Rios of Felician. Enjoying a breakout year was Cooke, sitting tied for first on the team in goals at 49, while contributing 28 assists for a team-leading 77 points, recording at least a hat trick in 13 of 15 games so far this season. The junior is second in the conference in both goals and points per game, while sitting fourth in assists per game.

Rounding out the First Team trio was Denike, who had a big eight-point game the other day in the CACC First Round against the University of Bridgeport with eight points. This season, the junior has a team-best 36 assists, which led the conference in assists per game in fewer games played than Jake Feeney in second place. Off the bench, Denike has had 18 goals as well, totaling up 54 points to go along with his 25 ground balls and six caused turnovers.

No stranger to the Second Team, McGrayne entered the season as an NEILA All-New England Preseason Second Team honoree and currently is tied for the team lead in goals with 49 alongside Cooke, to go with his 20 assists and 69 points overall. McGrayne's numbers put him third in the conference in goals and points per game, while ranking 10th in assists per game, and 19th in shots per game with 82. His offensive prowess, joined by Brien's, another Second Team pick, helped pace the Eagles as the freshman added 30 goals and 13 assists for 43 points to the team, as well as 26 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. Brien also ranked in the top 20 for the conference, finishing 11th in goals, 17th in points, and 15th in shots per game.

Finally, quiet on the defensive end but making his presence felt amid the veterans on the team was John Karas. Making the Second Team, too, Karas had 35 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers for the Eagles, while also recording an assist against Franklin Pierce University at the beginning of the season. Karas and the Post defense have allowed just 9.66 goals per game across 15 games played so far this season.
