WATERBURY, Conn. -- For the fifth consecutive season, Post University Men's Lacrosse netted multiple players in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's All-Conference awards release, which came out on Tuesday afternoon, featuring sophomore midfielder
Will Brien on the First Team, while both senior attacker
Leighton Cooke and sophomore defender
John Karas were named to the Second Team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
In each of the last four seasons, the Eagles have had at least one First Team recipient, with this year's being Brien, after he finished third on the team in goals and fourth on the team in points. The sophomore closed his second year with the program, generating 31 goals in 16 games, while tallying 10 assists on 103 total shots. Brien was also responsible for one game-winning goal, four man-up goals, 24 ground balls, and seven caused turnovers. During his freshman season, he was named CACC All-Conference Second Team, and in addition to the First Team honor this year, was a CACC Honor Roll recipient just last week.Â
As for Cooke, he completes his four-year career at Post with his second straight year of All-Conference honors, being named to the First Team last season before earning Second Team this year. The senior led the team in goals with 41 as well as points with 57 after tallying 16 assists along the way. Offensively, he was responsible for two game-winning goals and eight man-up goals, while hauling in 28 ground balls and four caused turnovers. Cooke finishes his career with the fourth-most points in program history with 183 in 65 games via 127 goals and 56 assists. He was also named to the CACC Honor Roll once and the NEILAÂ Preseason Watch Team.Â
For the second consecutive year, Karas got the All-Conference Second Team nod, doing so behind a defensive effort that saw him rack up 31 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers. Post's defense this year held opponents to fewer than ten goals in 11 of their games, giving them an 8-3 record in such scenarios during the season. Karas appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles, who gave up an average of 9.87 goals per game to their opponents.Â
