WATERBURY, Conn. -- New year, new structure for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference when it comes to both the Men's and Women's Basketball standings as the removal of the division sees all 11 teams battling it out for eight postseason spots starting this season. Under the new structure, every team will play each other twice, once at home and once on the road, and for Post University Men's Basketball that will make up 20 of their 28 games during the 2025-26 campaign in which they were picked to finish third in the conference with 76 points and one first-place vote after their trip to the CACC Championship Game last year.
Last year's conference champion, the University of Bridgeport, was picked to finish fourth with 69 points and two first-place votes just behind the Eagles, while Dominican (N.Y.)Â was the overwhelming favorite with 89 points and five first-place votes followed by Jefferson University in second with 84 points and no firs-place votes. Last season, Post defeated the Rams in the CACC Semifinals, 85-78, in overtime, before falling to the Purple Knights in the Championship Game, 67-57.Â
From last year to this year, Head Coach
Marc Kuntz's team will look very different entering his ninth season at the helm of the program with only seven returners from last season. Those seven players include graduate forward
Derrick Thomas II, graduate guard
Cape Holden, senior guard
Tre Duncan, senior guard Caleb Sampton, junior guard
Ta'Quan Williams, sophomore guard
Andrew Williams, and sophomore forward
Anthony Chinn.Â
Multiple transfers from Division I schools have entered the mix as well with Central Connecticut State University's
Brody Limric and Canisius University's
Gianni Thompson coming in from their respective schools, while freshman guard
Harry Scully and freshman forward
Stanley Njekwe reunite after playing overseas for the Irish team over the past couple of years. The height of Coach Kuntz's team is led by six players listed at 6-foot, 6-inches or taller in Limric, Thompson, junior forward
Deng Akok, Thomas II, Njekwe, and freshman forward
Brandon Beamon.Â
Essentially the entire starting lineup from last season is gone with
Deng Deang,
Bol Akot,
Robert Sanders,
Tyler Small, and
Harrison Warnock all graduating, but the emergence of
Ta'Quan Williams last season, who averaged 10.8 points per game, along with the veteran leadership of Thomas II, who averaged 8.6 points per game last season are both key returners who averaged 20-plus minutes per game.Â
The Eagles are coming off two of their most successful seasons in the
Marc Kuntz era in which they were nationally ranked during the 2023-24 season en route to their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament where they beat nationally-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas College in the First Round before falling to Southern New Hampshire University, 69-64. Returning essentially everyone last year, Post made it to the CACC Championship for the first time in 21 years, falling just short of their first CACC title since the 2002-03 season.
Post Univesity opens up their season at the Bridgeport Tip-Off Tournament on November 14th with a bout against Southern Connecticut State University at 5:00 PM. The first home game in the Drubner Center for the Eagles will not be until November 30th when they face Southern New Hampshire University at 3:00 PM.
