WATERBURY, Conn. -- Finishing out a dominant two-year career with the Post University Men's Basketball team this past winter, senior
Deng Deang is headed overseas to play professional basketball as over the weekend the six-foot, seven-inch forward from St. Cloud, Minnesota signed with MBK Banik Handlova in Slovakia to continue his career. According to the latest roster from EuroBasket, Deang will be one of just four Americans to play for the team.
MBK Banik Handlova is part of the Slovak Basketball League (SBL) and one of 10 teams in the league, which last year saw Patrioti Levice win its fourth consecutive league championship, while Handlova will be vying for their first-ever title having been the runner-up twice in their history and last year finishing in third place at 24-12 in the standings.
Deang's two years at Post saw the big man play in 57 games while starting in 54 of them, averaging 29.2 minutes to the tune of 16.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. Throughout the course of his career, he had 67 steals and 38 blocks, while narrowly missing the 1,000 Point Club at 945 career points. Deang shot 46.4% from the field, 34.6% from three, and 79.9% from the free-throw line during his time as an Eagle.
The transfer from Southeastern Iowa Junior College of the NJCAA racked up numerous accolades as a result of his play for Post, being named to the CACC All-Conference First Team in his first season as well as being a D2CCA All-East Region Second Team honoree, and being invited to play at the Division II Drew League Showcase. This past winter, Deang continued to dazzle as a one-time CACC Player of the Week in December, a four-time member of the CACC Honor Roll for weekly awards, being named CACC All-Conference First Team and NABC All-District First Team, before capping it all off with a trip to the NABC Division II College All-Star Game.
