Waterbury, Conn. – It was a senior day to remember as the Post University women's lacrosse team won a wild 18-17 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game against Caldwell on Wednesday afternoon.

Morgan Cassiliano led the way for the Eagles with five goals, while Cara DiStefano and senior Lauren Chambers each had three.

With the game tied at 17-17 after three straight goals from the Cougars, a foul from Caldwell's Jules Wesler set the stage for DiStefano for a free position attempt she put past goalkeeper Mia Monacelli for her third goal of the game and ultimately, the game winner.

Post (2-1, 2-1 CACC) scored three goals in the first 2:26 of the game, starting with a goal from Megan Diamond on a free position shot just 17 seconds into the game. Caldwell (1-4, 1-1 CACC) answered before Cassiliano and DiStefano each scored their first goal of the game.

The Cougars answered with three straight to take the lead, 4-3, but behind Cassiliano, the Eagles scored seven of the next eight goals, with Cassiliano contributing three of them during the stretch. Molly Dobratz added two of her own during the run. Hailey McHenry and DiStefano chipped in with the other two.

Post went into the half leading 11-7 after a goal from senior Julia Thomas in the final minute.

After goals from Lotanna Nwabudu and two more from Chambers gave the Eagles a 15-9 lead at the 21:00 mark, Caldwell scored four straight to make it a 15-13 game Chambers and Thomas scored two more times in the second half to make it a 17-14 lead before Caldwell's three straight goals, which set the stage for DiStefano's game winner.

The scoring outburst of the Eagles came in large part to their ability to win the draw control. Diamond won nine of them for the Eagles, while Chambers won seven of them.

Thomas finished with two goals and an assist on the day. Gabrielle Fiora had two assists.

The Eagles outshot the Cougars, 40-27.

Prior to the game, Rose Varrone, Thomas and Chambers were all honored for senior day.

Christina Badaracco had nine saves for the Eagles in net.

Arden Kassaleh and Samantha Murphy each had five goals for Caldwell. Murphy also had 12 assists.

The Eagles head to Chestnut Hill for their first road test on April 17, beginning at noon.
