Strong First Half Give Eagles 16-6 Victory Over Nyack

Shannon Young Ties Season-High With Five Goals

NYACK, N.Y. – Behind 13 first half goals, the Post University women's lacrosse team picked up its fourth victory of the season 16-6 over Nyack on Tuesday. The Eagles improve to 4-8 overall and 4-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
 
The two teams were close early as Lauren Lebo scored the first goal of the game for the Warriors. Seniors Meghan Diggett (East Islip, N.Y.) and Morgan Kanavy (Syracuse, N.Y.) combined for three goals to put Post ahead 3-1. Nyack answered back to tie the game 3-3 with 19:31 remaining in the half.
 
The Eagles took over from there as junior Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) scored her first goal of the day. Freshman Shannon Young (Centereach, N.Y.) scored three straight to put Post in front 7-3 with 9:15 left.
 
Grace Orbine stopped the Post run with a score with 7:25 left in the half, but the Eagles closed out the period with six straight goals to head into the break ahead 13-4. Young finished with four goals in the first. Polaski had two goals and four assists. Junior Eryka Baez (Clifton, N.J.) and Kanavy each had two scores in the first half.
 
Kanavy and Polaski continued the scoring run to start the second with a goal each. Young tied her season-high with her fifth goal of the game with 1:29 remaining for the final tally.
 
Post was outshot 28-21 on the day, but held and 18-16 advantage in shots on goal. Polaski led the Eagles with three caused turnovers and four draw controls. Sophomore Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) picked up a team-high three ground balls. Senior Kathy Walker (Dorchester, Mass.) made 10 saves in the victory.
 
The Eagles begin a four-game homestand to close out the regular season on Friday, April 11 against Chestnut Hill. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
