Box Score

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Post University men's lacrosse team was defeated by Mercy 16-7 at Mavericks Field in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Kyle Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) led the Eagles with three goals on the day.

After an early score by Mercy, Shannon got the Eagles on the board with a shot from the far right wing to knot the score 1-1. The Mavericks scored four goals over the next eight minutes, two by Jesse Wood, to take a 5-1 lead with 4:23 remaining in the half. Shannon scored his second from the left wing off a pass from freshman Tim Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) and Post trailed 6-2 after one quarter.

Freshman Jack Kearney (Sandy Hook, Conn.) forced his first of two turnovers on the day and found junior Brian Beatson (Fairfax, Va.) for a goal with 10:16 left in the second quarter as the Eagles trailed 8-3. An illegal body check by Mercy gave Post an extra-man opportunity and Shannon converted off a pass from Wright to cut the deficit to 10-4 at the half.

Sophomore Shane McKay (Hempstead, N.Y.) scored twice in the second half. Wright added man-down goal late in the fourth quarter for Post.

Post was outshot 45-34 on the day, Shannon and Beatson combined for 17 shots. Kearney picked up six of the Eagles' 32 ground balls. Junior goalkeeper Anthony DeRosa (Toms River, N.J.) stopped 14 shots.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, April 9 at No. 5 Dowling. Face-off is set for 4 p.m.
