Box Score PHILIPPI, W. Va. – The Post University men's lacrosse team battled back from a 6-3 first quarter deficit to defeat Alderson Broaddus 24-10 on Saturday afternoon. The victory snapped the Eagles nine-game losing streak as they improve to 4-10 on the year.
Freshman
Alex Brownlee (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored seven goals and had three assists for Post. Freshman
Kyle Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) and junior
Brian Beatson (Fairfax, Va.) each added six goals.
Beatson scored twice early in the first quarter and after a goal by the Battlers, Shannon scored his first of the game to put Post in front 3-2 midway through the opening period. Alderson Broaddus answered with four straight scores to take its largest lead at 6-3. The Eagles closed out the half with two goals to head into the break down 6-5.
Post took control from there, shutting out the Battlers in the second quarter and holding them to just five shots as the Eagles opened up a 12-6 lead. Shannon tied the score with an extra man goal at the 12:56 mark of the quarter. He scored twice in the period. Brownlee had three goals in the quarter.
The third quarter was much of the same as Post outscored Alderson Broaddus 8-3. The Battlers cut the lead to 14-9, but never got any closer as the Eagles ended the quarter with six straight goals, two by Brownlee.
Shannon scored the final goal for Post with 6:57 left in the game off a pass from freshman
Tim Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.). Wright led the Eagles with four assists on the day.
Post dominated all facets of the game, outshooting the Battlers 54-27 including a 44-19 advantage in shots on goal. The Eagles picked up a season-high 40 ground balls led by freshman
Corry Boyle (Andover, N.J.) with 11. Junior
Andrew Supanich (Jackson, Va.) caused two turnovers and Post forced 17 as a team.
The Eagles return home on Friday, April 25 against No. 7 NYIT. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
