Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) scored her 100
th career goal on Thursday afternoon as the Post University women's lacrosse team fell to Dominican 17-8 in its final game of the season. The Eagles finish the year at 4-12 overall and 4-8 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play, their best record in school history.
Dominican jumped out to a 6-0 lead midway through the first half. Polaski put the Eagles on the board with her milestone goal with 14:54 left in the first. Minutes later she assisted on a goal by senior
Meghan Diggett (East Islip, N.Y.), Post's other 100-goal scorer.
After another score by Dominican, the Eagles closed out the half with two straight goals by Diggett and freshman
Shannon Young (Centereach, N.Y.) to make the score at the break 7-4.
Post made things interesting early in the second half. Allison Smithwick scored for the Chargers off the opening draw. The Eagles responded with three straight goals to cut the deficit to 8-7. Polaski took the ensuing draw and scored. Young followed with her second of the day and Polaski closed out the run with another goal.
Dominican took control from there with eight goals in a row to put the game away. Polaski added a late score. She finishes the season with 42 goals on the year, the fourth highest single-season total in school history.
The Eagles picked up 22 ground balls on the day led by Diggett with a season-high six. Senior
Kathy Walker (Dorchester, Mass.) made 17 saves to finish the year with 237 stops, a single-season record.
Diggett finishes her career with 102 goals, second on the all-time scoring list.
