Baez and Young Each Score Twice For Post

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Post University women's lacrosse team fell 17-8 in its season-opener to American International on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Eryka Baez (Clifton, N.J.) and freshman Shannon Young (Centereach, N.Y.) each scored twice for the Eagles.

Post fell behind 4-0 early in the first half, senior Morgan Kanavy (Syracuse, N.Y.) got the Eagles on the board with a man-up goal with 17:10 left in the period. After another goal by the Yellow Jackets, sophomore Jordyn Woltmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and Young scored back-to-back to cut the deficit to 5-3 midway through the half. Junior Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) recorded her first of two assists on the goal by Young.

Senior Meghan Diggett (East Islip, N.Y.) scored a shorthanded goal later in the half. She assisted on another score by Young with 1:34 left in first, but the Eagles trailed 11-5 at the break.

Sophomore Isatu Bangura-Jalloh (Elmont, N.Y.) scored once and Baez had two goals in the second half, but Post never got closer than seven.

Despite the score, the Eagles committed just eight turnovers on the day compared to 18 for AIC, two of which were caused by Polaski. The junior also picked up seven of Post's game-high 19 ground balls. Senior goalkeeper Kathy Walker (Dorchester, Mass.) made 16 saves in her first game back from an offseason injury.

Post is back in action on Tuesday, March 11 on the road at Southern New Hampshire. First draw is set for 4 p.m.
