Eagles’ Comeback Attempt Falls Short At UDC

Brownlee Scores Four Goals For Post

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Post University men's lacrosse team scored the final four goals of the game on Saturday afternoon at the University of the District of Columbia but fell short 13-11. The lost is the Eagles' fifth straight as they fall to 3-6 on the season.
 
Post trailed 7-6 at the break and the Firebirds' Chase Fraser scored twice early in the third to extend their advantage to 9-6. Freshman Joe Greene (Rochester, N.Y.) got the Eagles back on the board with goal off a pass from junior Brian Beatson (Fairfax, Va.) with 5:44 remaining in the third. Fraser added another before the end of the quarter.
 
District of Columbia scored three times over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to take its largest lead of the game at 13-7. The Firebirds committed a penalty with 4:06 left to give the Eagles an extra-man opportunity and freshman Tim Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) scored to begin the Post comeback.
 
Freshman Corry Boyle (Andover, N.J.) won the ensuing faceoff and classmate Kyle Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) scored immediately to cut the deficit to 13-9 with 3:23 remaining. After a save on defense, Post cleared the ball back into its offensive zone and Wright found Beatson for a goal. Brownlee scored his fourth of the game with 1:35 remaining to make the score 13-11, but Post was unable to regain possession.
 
Post jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start the game as Brownlee scored twice early. The teams were tied 3-3 after one quarter. The Firebirds took a 6-4 lead with 3:05 left before the half until back-to-back goals by Beatson and Brownlee tied the game 6-6. UDC added a score in the final minute of the half.
 
The Eagles outshot District of Columbia 38-32 on the afternoon and had 24 shots on goal. Post forced the Firebirds into 24 turnovers, freshman Andrew D'Angelo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) had four caused turnovers. D'Angelo also led the team with four ground balls, Post had 12 as a team.
 
Post is back in action on Wednesday, March 26 at home against Molloy. The Lions are currently ranked 14th in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Poll. Face-off is set for 4 p.m.
