Five Goals By Young Lead Post To Second Straight Victory

Eagles Tie Record For Most Wins In Single Season

WATERBURY, Conn. – Freshman Shannon Young (Centereach, N.Y.) scored five goals to lead the Post University women's lacrosse team over Caldwell 13-10 on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
 
Young got things started for Post with her first goal at the 28:13 mark of the first. Junior Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) scored her first of two goals five minutes later to put the Eagles in front 2-0. Caldwell answered with three straight goals, two by Courtney Donlon to take its only lead of the game at 3-2 with 14:22 remaining in the first half.
 
Sophomore Isatu Bangura (Elmont, N.Y.) picked up a ground ball after a Cougars' turnover and took it the distance to tie the game 3-3. Senior Meghan Diggett (East Islip, N.Y.) put Post in front 4-3 with 10:10 left off a pass from Polaski. The teams traded scores down the stretch of the first and senior Morgan Kanavy (Syracuse, N.Y.) gave the Eagles a 6-5 lead at the break on a goal with 11 seconds left in the period.
 
Post began to pull away to begin the second with three straight goals over the first 3:20 capped by Bangura's third on the day as the Eagles took their largest lead at 9-5. Caldwell would not go away as it closed the gap to one with just over 20 minutes remaining.
 
Polaksi found Young in front of the net twice as the freshman scored three straight for the Eagles to extend the advantage to 12-9. Christina Gonzalez scored for the Cougars with 5:21 left to make the score 12-10. Senior Kathy Walker (Dorchester, Mass.) made two saves on free-position attempts down the stretch to preserve the lead. She finished with 11 saves.
 
Polaski tied a career-high with five assists on the day. Caldwell outshot the Eagles 22-20 on the day, but lost the turnover battle 15-13. Post held a 21-13 advantage on ground balls, led by Polaski with five.
 
With the victory, the Eagles have their first two-game win streak in program history. Post also tied the school record for most victories in a single season.
 
Post begins its five-game road trip on Thursday, March 20 at Georgian Court. First draw is set for 4 p.m.
