PREVIEW: Eagles Close Out Five-Game Road Trip Against Franklin Pierce

Alex Brownlee Leads Post With 15 Goals This Season

WATERBURY, Conn.  – The Post University men's lacrosse team closes out its five-game road trip on Tuesday afternoon against Northeast-10 opponent, Franklin Pierce. The Eagles have dropped their last two games.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Assumption 15, Post 8 – Box Score | Recap
Assumption grabbed control of the game early as it scored seven straight to open the game, three by Garrett Smith. Freshman Andrew D'Angleo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) found classmate Tim Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) for the Eagles' first goal with 10:12 left in the half. The Greyhounds tacked on three more scores and headed into the half up 10-1.
 
After falling behind 13-1 early in the third quarter, Post's offense got on track scoring four straight times. Junior Andrew Supanich (Jackson, Va.) got things started with his first of two goals in the game. Freshman Alex Brownlee (Syracuse, N.Y.) found the back of the net just 47 seconds later. Supanich closed out the third with another goal. Freshman Kyle Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) opened the fourth quarter with a score that cut the deficit to 13-5 with 12:50 left. After two more goals by the Greyhounds, Post added three scores to close out the game.
 
SCOUTING THE RAVENS
Franklin Pierce is 1-1 on the season and is ranked fifth in the most recent New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Poll. Last time out, the Raves defeated Dominican 17-5 behind a school-record eight goals by Kevin Dargin. Dargin leads the team with nine goals on the season. Franklin Pierce was selected eighth in the Northeast-10 Preseason Poll.
 
MANNING UP
Post has fared well this season with a one-man advantage. The Eagles have scored on 14 of their 36 man-up attempts. Defensively, Post has been able to kill-off its opponents' advantages, allowing just eight goals on 31 opportunities. Tim Wright leads the Eagles with five man-up goals this season.
 
FLYING WITH A YOUNG SQUAD
The Eagles young roster is comprised of just nine upperclassmen led by team captains, juniors Brian Baatson (Fairfax, Va.), Matt Edwin (Stamford, Conn.), Andrew Supanich (Jackson, Va.); and senior Angel Lastra (Wharton, N.J.). Freshman defender Jack Kearney (Sandy Hook, Conn.) is also a captain.
 
PLAYING SOME OF THE BEST
The Eagles will be playing some tough competition in their first season. Post has games scheduled with three teams ranked in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Preseason Top 15. The Eagles are at Dowling (No. 10) on April 9 and Chestnut Hill (No. 15) on April 15. Post will host No. 6 NYIT in its season finale on April 25.
 
NORTHEAST CLASSIC
On Oct. 12, the Eagles participated in the Northeast Classic Lacrosse Tournament and played exhibition games against Southern New Hampshire, New England College, and St. Michael's. All proceeds from the tournament were donated to cancer research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Mass.
 
THE ROAD AHEAD
Post returns home on Wednesday, March 19 against Dominican at LaMoy Field. Face-off is set for 4 p.m.
