Eagles Earn 13-7 Victory Over Ohio Valley In First-Ever Game

Brownlee and Shannon Lead Post With Three Goals Each

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Post University men's lacrosse team scored six times in the first quarter as it won its first game on Friday afternoon 13-7 over Ohio Valley at Abdow Field in Springfield, Mass. Freshman Alex Brownlee (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Kyle Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) each scored three times in the victory.
 
The Eagles got on the board early and often in the first beginning with a goal by sophomore Shane McKay (Hempstead, N.Y.) with 12:36 left in the quarter. After a turnover by Ohio Valley, the Eagles peppered the cage with shots until junior Andrew Supanich (Jackson, Va.) found the back of the net to put Post in front 2-0. Supanich added his second goal minutes later as Post scored three times in the final two minutes of the quarter to jump ahead 6-0 after one.
 
The Fighting Scots scored quickly to begin the second as Brandon Buck beat junior Anthony DeRosa (Toms River, N.J.). After another Eagles' goal, Brennan Stothers scored twice for Ohio Valley to close the gap to 7-3 midway through the second. Junior Brian Beatson (Fairfax, Va.) added a man-up goal with 1:50 left to give Post an 8-3 lead at the break.
 
Freshman Jack Kearney (Sandy Hook, Conn.) found Brownlee for his second score early in the third as the Eagles led 9-3. Ohio Valley did not go away, scoring four straight and found itself down 9-7 with 13:20 left to play.
 
The Fighting Scots nearly closed the gap to one late with, but two shots hit the post and the Eagles gained possession. Brownlee game Post some breathing room with a goal in front with 6:52 left. Post added three more scores, including a man-down goal by McKay, before time expired.
 
Post played well with a man-up, converting on four of its five opportunities. The Eagles outshot Ohio Valley 40-31, including 17-5 in the first quarter. Brownlee and Supanich each added two assists. DeRosa made 12 saves in goal.
 
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at home against American International. Face-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
